It is a beach located near the town of Nueva de Llanes, at the mouth of the river Cuevas. Cuevas del Mar is also part of the Protected Landscape of the Eastern Coast of Asturias thanks to its geological characteristics and its special vegetation. Its name comes from the huge cave-shaped rocks that were carved by both the sea waves and the wind.
It is formed by fine white sand and pebbles, with a moderate swell but its bathing is not dangerous. It also has different services such as showers, ample parking, rescue service, garbage cans, cleaning service, public telephones, recreational area and drinking establishment. It is a very touristy beach, with a high level of occupation in the summer months, and can be accessed by car.
